This Eager-Pack AssemblyŽ (Explosively Actuated Gas Energy Release) is used to separate the Taurus Launch Vehicle from the shroud covering the satellite.
Upon initiation, a small piercing ram is driven forward puncturing the gas bottle diaphragm. The pressurized gas within the hermetically sealed bottle is released to deploy push rods that separate the shroud.
This device is fully qualified and is one of the many high-reliability stored gas products manufactured by Conax. Other applications include fuel tank pressurization. Marine floatation systems, missile fin actuation, thrust vector control, etc.
