PAYLOAD PARACHUTE RELEASE SYSTEM (PPRS)
This water activated, electro-explosive release automatically separates the parachute canopy from its cargo load during an air drop. It is commonly used for aerial delivery of heavy payloads, such as the Rigid Inflatable Boat(RIB) to provide a positive, repeatable release in all wind and sea conditions when dropping large RIBs. There are several different versions available, including one used to disconnect the Space Shuttle’s Solid Rocket Booster parachutes after splashdown. The parachute’s shroud lines would be hazardous to recovery operations and additional damage to the Solid Rocket Booster would occur without the PPRS.

- Activates within 2 seconds when immersed in sea water.
- Storage/service life with battery is 3 years; without battery is 5 years.
